WHAT WE BELIEVE

We believe that the Bible is the written word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit and without error in the original manuscripts. The Bible is the revelation of God’s truth and is infallible and authoritative in all matters of faith and practice.

We believe in the Holy Trinity. There is one God, who exists eternally in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

We believe that all people are sinners and totally unable to save themselves from God’s displeasure, except by His mercy.

We believe that salvation is by God alone, as He sovereignly chooses those He will save. We believe that His choice is based on His grace, not on any human individual merit, or foreseen faith.

We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, who through His perfect life and sacrificial death atoned for the sins of all who will trust in Him, alone, for salvation.

We believe that God is gracious and faithful to His people not simply as individuals but as families in successive generations according to His covenant promises.

We believe that the Holy Spirit indwells God’s people and gives them the strength and wisdom to trust Christ and follow Him.

We believe that Jesus will return, bodily and visibly, to judge all mankind and to receive His people unto Himself.

We believe that all aspects of our lives are to be lived to the glory of God under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

OUR VISION

The Apostle Paul tells us in Romans 10:17 that “faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” Since the word of Christ is the mode by which mankind comes to saving faith, First Presbyterian Church of Indianola is committed to extending the kingdom of God through the preaching of the infallible Word of God. As members, we strive to glorify God by prayer, evangelism, and through deeds of love and compassion.

Our vision involves serving God faithfully in:

OUR HISTORY

The Presbyterian Church in Indianola was formed in 1887. For more than 130 years, our goal has been to offer warm and reverent worship to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The history of First Presbyterian does not derive primarily from our offering to God, but rather from His goodness to us. We are a congregation that has been carried through denominational changes, wars, droughts, and floods. It is with thankful hearts that we look back on the steadfast love of the Lord over these many years. As we move forward, we will again seek His mighty hand to lead us to be the men and women whom He has called us to be. United to Christ, we move forward with thanks for His mercy and hope for the continued work of His Holy Spirit.
